The Beginning
Our countless travels abroad have helped shape our continuing curiosity for the world. Once we knew we wanted to see more of world around us, we decided we needed a home on wheels. When we initially stated, we began searching for a large van. Along our search for an affordable van, we noticed that the practicality was not there for us. The nice new vans were too expensive, and the cheap old ones were too difficult to repair.
When we came across the option of purchasing a vintage trailer, we instantly knew it was right choice for us. We purchased our first trailer in September of 2018. We acquired it through a craigslist ad a few hours north of us, and we were pleasantly delighted to have met such a welcoming seller who gave us a good deal. He advised us to register our trailer at a local DMV which only took us 25 minutes to complete, with definitely beats sitting in a Los Angeles DMV for 8 hours.
Our 1957 Terry Canned Ham is definitely a fixer upper but has some great bones and potential. We have decided we are going to keep the original layout of the trailer with our own warm modern touch. We were so caught up in the excitement about purchasing the trailer that we seemed to overlook a pretty big question. Where the hell are we going to put it?
After a day or two of overlooking our options, we were lucky enough to have a family member allow us to keep it with them. This means that we have to designate full days in order to work on it, since it isn’t super close to home. We look forward to these days like no other. It is not only the best feeling to see the progress we make, but also the joy it brings us, knowing our creative minds are working together.
Our goal with this trailer is to have a place that feels like home, away from home. Jimmy and my taste is very much mid-century modern, sleek, and bright. We love white walls, green plants, and black accents- and that is exactly our plan with this trailer. We believe a combination of natural light and white walls brings a positive energy into any space. We also want our 16 foot trailer to not only act as a mere sleeping quarter, but a place to get together with family and friends. This is why we are making sure we have sleeping areas for 4 people, a great seating area, and fully stacked kitchen to make amazing memories with our guests. We can’t wait to see these visions manifest when we reach that stage in our journey.
This trailer is just one step for us in our overall plan. Not only do we want to continue giving updates on our progress and the travels we go on, we also want to provide a platform for education so that maybe we can inspire or help you along your own journey. We believe that paying it forward and spreading love and knowledge is the best way to live your life.
